Child & Family Services

Culturally grounded child and family support

Our child and family service model is culturally grounded, trauma-aware, child-centred and family-inclusive.

Our model

Family, kin and culture at the centre

We start from the belief that children do best when they stay connected to family, kin, community, culture and Country — and that carers do best when they are genuinely supported.

Practice is trauma-aware, strengths-based and evidence-informed. We work in partnership with families, carers, community organisations and the responsible statutory authority so that decisions are informed by cultural context as well as by professional assessment.

Safeguarding statement

“The safety, rights, voice, identity and wellbeing of each child or young person remain central to every decision and service response.”

Service status

The service areas below are described as capabilities and proposed service areas. Garkazi Care does not represent these as services currently commissioned under a Queensland Government contract.

Equipping Kin

Culturally safe assessment that helps kinship carers step forward with the right information and support.

What this capability includes

  • Kinship-carer engagement, in the family's own time and place
  • Culturally safe assessment led by relationship, not paperwork
  • Household and safety assessment
  • Identification of strengths and support needs
  • Preparation of clear assessment recommendations
  • Child-centred and evidence-informed practice
  • Respect for family, kinship, culture and community
  • Coordination with the responsible statutory authority
Garkazi Care does not make statutory placement decisions. Assessment findings and recommendations are provided to the authorised decision-maker, who determines the outcome.

Service capability — T212
